Sydney Game Fishing club
Sydney Game Fishing Club is the oldest game fishing club in Australia, having been formed in 1903, their club house situated on the end of Watsons Bay wharf was officially opened in 1952.
The club contacted SFF for assistance when Transport for NSW released a proposal to upgrade the existing ferry wharf, but without considering the club. Over the decades, Sydney Game Fishing Club have invested their own money into maintenance of the building and infrastructure. The club is iconic and is well known amongst the community.
The wharf is in desperate need of an update, with no disabled access facilities or toilets, but the club is part of the wharfs history and should stay. Our Government needs to include provision in their plans for the club.
The community were not satisfied with either of the two proposals put forth, needless to say, either was the club.
SFF have met with the Minister's office regarding the proposal on multiple occasions, since then, we have been assured that upgrades to the wharf have not been flagged for the immediate future.
This doesn't mean the club is safe and free from harm, SFF stand ready and are committed to keeping a close watchful eye out for any developments, we are in regular communication with the club and preparing in case our Government has a change of heart and decides to move against their word.
